The Ninebark, Physocarpus plant is most effective if used as a hedge screen in the garden. You'll also see them near banks of water to help with erosion control. It's able to grow in harsh conditions but is a medium maintenance plant. It's beautiful, showy flowers bloom from May to June and prefers full sun to part shade. It grows best in acidic, well-drained soil, but will adapt to many soil conditions. Best known for peeling bark and white-cup shaped flowers. It grows 6 to 10 feet tall and wide, in zones 2-8. The white flower heads will attract birds, bees and butterflies to your garden. Some of the most popular among the Ninebark is Diabolo for its rich purple foliage and the Golden Ninebark for its compact quality and striking yellow foliage that fades into a yellow-green in summer.
