Amelanchier, commonly referred to as serviceberry, is a large deciduous shrub or small tree. This plant has slightly fragrant, white flowers and the leaves has solid fall color. They also has edible blueberry-like fruit that is commonly used in pies, jellies and jams. It can easily be grown in average, medium, well-drained soils in full to part shade. It's tolerate of somewhat wide range of soils. Amelanchier is best used as shrub borders, especially when planted next to darker plants to highlight the texture, form, fall colors and flowers.
