Pruning Winter Burn on Evergreens

Winter Damaged Evergreens - Some of the spreading Juniper types had some branches that poked through the snow and as a result were damaged from the reflected light and cold, drying winds.

Junipers should not be sheared into spheres or squares, but best pruned by hand pruning the longest growth back into the body of the plants. Here with the winter damaged branches, you can easily remove some of these winter damaged branches and allow the new growth to fill in those area where you have removed the brown branches. Hand prune out the worst stems that have burned brown or orange in color without ruining the natural form of the plants.
