Japanese Spurge

Pachysandra is sometimes known as Japanese spurge, this is an ideal groundcover under trees as it is happy in shade and tolerates dry soil. It has glossy, toothed leaves in a rosette form. Quite fast growing by long lived, it rarely grows more than 8 inches high. It spreads with runners and makes a dense, weed-suppressing cover once established in the landscape. Plant at about 1 foot intervals for quick cover. Pachysandra terminalis produces greenish white flower spikes in spring. Although tolerant of sun or shade, this plant is best in shaded and fairly sheltered positions. It tolerates damp or dry soil by not heavy, waterlogged clay soils. They like shade or partial shade.
