Trumpet vines are self-clinging climbers. They produce short roots from their stems, known as aerial roots, that attach themselves firmly to supports. This way they can attach themselves to completely flat surfaces like walls. Trumpet vines are hardy and they prefer warm, sunny walls and fences. They do best in full sun, but they will work in partial shade. The preferred surface would be a brick or stone wall, because they absorb heat, and this helps promote growth and encourages flowering.
