Lady's Mantle

Lady's mantle, Alchemilla mollis, is a quick-growing herbaceous perennial mostly used as a border plant to edge paths and beds. An abundant self-seeder, it is good for suppressing weeds, filling any free spaces, often popping up in cracks in paths. Growing anywhere between 8 and 16 inches high, one plant may spread to 11-16 inches. The rounded, slightly hairy leaves overlap one another, and the plant produces trusses of bright lime-green flowers through summer. It provides a lovely contrast with other, stronger colors. The leaves on Lady's mantle tend to trap raindrops or dew, adding to the affect. Lady's mantle thrives in full sun, although it tolerates a degree of light shade. Alchemilla mollis needs well-drained soil that has a high organic contest.
