Spectacular blooms, large handsome leaves and an ability to grow almost anywhere sunny, buddleja is a good choice for beginner gardeners. Butterfly bush from the (Buddleja) genus are distinct and hardy deciduous shrubs. They have cone-shaped flowers with dark purple, purplish red, pink, white or blue. They yield a waterfall of shoots sleeved with soft purple flowers. These plants perform best in full sun, but tolerate slight shade (Buddleja davidii resists chilly winds). They thrive in most soils, they prefer a well-drained position enriched with organic matter. Cones or globes of blossom light up summer. Hardy at 14 degrees Fahrenheit. Can plant March-November.
